Unveiling the Spiral Eye Chandelier
During my time practicing architecture in Hawaii, I became captivated by the airy essence of island architecture and the interplay between pendant light fixtures and the constant trade winds. This fascination led me to delve into crafting light fixtures, ultimately giving rise to Light Ray Studios when I pioneered a method to imbue chandeliers with a fluid, dancing motion akin to a Calder mobile. Inventing a system to balance the fixture was just the beginning; I also designed a co-axial electrical swivel to seamlessly transmit electricity to each arm.
The “Spiral Eye” chandelier, depicted to the left, stands as a testament to this innovation. Commissioned to grace a stairway in a house I designed in Kaanapali, Maui, this masterpiece is crafted from copper and stainless steel, with MR16 spotlights adorning the apex of each of its 10 cones.
